Around Noon today, crews were alerted for a multi-vehicle crash at the 83.5 mile marker on the Parkway East (Rte. 376) in District 5. Initial reports stated 7 vehicles, with one overturned and possible over a hillside, with entrapment. Company 5 immediately upgraded the rescue assignment and requested additional EMS units. Medic 47 and Rescue 4 responded from Station 4. Units arrived on scene and found eight vehicles involved, including an overturned tri-axle, a tractor trailer, a small flat bed, a couple vans and 3 passenger vehicles blocking all lanes of travel. Units went to work sizing up the scene and checking for entrapped occupants while also triaging everyone involved in the crash. Remarkably, no occupants were entrapped and only two people suffered minor injuries. Crews were on scene for several hours while vehicle were removed and the roadway cleared of debris.
