October 9th through the 15th is National Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme is to check the date on your home smoke detectors and to replace the units if they are over 10 years old. Residents are also reminded to change the batteries in your smoke detectors in the spring and fall whenever you change your clocks to daylight savings or standard times. Unfortunately, 3 out of every 5 residential fire deaths that occur in this Country are due to inoperable smoke detectors.
